Detailed Description: This session introduces freely available digitized historical, cultural and other original materials hosted by the University of Florida (UF) that can be used in a K-12 classroom. The UF Digital Collections (UFDC) holds millions of unique items such as rare children's books, letters from the Civil War, photographs of herbarium specimens, aerial maps of Florida, and early 20th century Florida newspapers that can be used to help emphasize and/or illustrate a broad range of topics. An open educational database of lesson plans and other curriculum materials, aligned to Common Core State Standards and national content standards is being developed at UF. This presentation aims to describe this new UFDC Teacher Resources Collection; the professional development resources created to help educators find and use copyright-free UFDC content; and the process for educators to use and contribute to the collection.
